10/12/2008 - Two More New Arburg Golden Edition Machines
In December 2008 we took delivery of a further two ARBURG Golden Edition machines as part of our long term machine replacement programme. These are both 50 tonne machines. We were able to benefit from funding support from the Carbon Trust and acknowledge their support in the project. We are very conscious of the need to work towards the efficient use of energy and to reduce our carbon output. This brings to six the number of new ARBURG machines introduced over the last three years. We hope to make further changes in our machine replacement programme during 2009.
16/06/2008 - Energy Efficient Lighting
During the summer of 2008 we took the opportunity to replace the existing lighting in our production area with new energy efficient lighting which will reduce our lighting costs by 40%. We also took the opportunity to replace the existing de-stratification fans with new high efficiency units. This enables us to use the trapped heat which rises to the ceiling and re-circulates it to provide a more comfortable working temperature. This reduces our gas consumption and also enables us to utilise the residual heat from our production machinery.
Both these measures will be ongoing savings in energy costs and carbon reduction.
We acknowledge the funding support provided by Loan Action Scotland towards the project costs.
05/12/2007 - Two New Arburg Golden Edition Machines
In late 2007 we ordered a further two ARBURG Golden Edition machines as part of our long term machine replacement programme. These machines, a 50 tonne and a 150 tonne machine, are a repeat of the two machines delivered in 2006 which have been very well received by our staff. The increase in reliability, output and energy efficiency has been a welcome boost. We were able to benefit from funding support from the Carbon Trust and acknowledge their support in the project. We are very conscious of the need to work towards the efficient use of energy and to reduce our carbon output. We hope during 2008 to make further changes in our machine replacement programme.
27/06/2007 - New Cooling System
During the summer of 2007 we embarked on a project to replace our production water cooling plant with a new and more efficient system which uses the principle of free cooling to reduce our energy costs and to increase the capacity available to us. As we operate 24/7 this was an exciting logistical challenge to set ourselves to remove the old system and replace it with the new enlarged system with the minimum downtime to our production.
With careful planning and the co-operation of the contractors concerned as well as the support and understanding of our own staff this was achieved. None of our customers had their deliveries affected and we maintained the output required. Having said that there were a few scary moments behind the scenes and a few grey hairs were acquired. The system is well bedded in now and delivers our cooling requirements 24/7.
